Medication is a pharmaceutical drug,or also known as medicine or medicament can be loosely defined as any chemical substance intended for the use in medical diagnosis, cure, treatment,or prevention of disease...there are many types of medication out there, but however they intend to do good to us and cure us from pain, but do they really??...
There are two main types of accessing medication which is prescribed medication and Over the counter drugs (OTC,prescribed medication is medicine which is only made available to patients when a doctor writes orders for that particular medication to be administered, and OTC drugs are medicines that may be sold directly to a consumer without a prescription from a health care professional,as compared to prescription drugs which may only be sold to consumers possessing a valid prescription....
We purchase or order these types of medicine to alleviate pain or cure it,but do we really know the side effects or what goes into these drugs ??In many countries also in the UK,OTC drugs are selected by a regulatory agency to ensure that they are ingredients that are safe and effective when used without a physicians care, but what happens when things go wrong and you didn't expect for it to turn out like that, because you expected the drug to work.
I came across a newspaper article which I found very interesting to the topic that I'm discussing...A young girl named Eva Uhlin who is now 19 suffered a one-in-a-million allergic reaction to the pain-killing drug paracetamol that left her unrecognisable, the deadly condition called Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis gripped her whole body, causing her skin to burn up and scab over before falling off...This nightmare began when she was told to take paracetamol for a fever that she had,but altogether her virus and the drug created a reaction nobody could have predicted.
Now for me this girl was very lucky considering the disease can kill and only 40% of sufferers do not survive due to the condition leaving patients vulnerable to other infections,so do we ever think that a drug or medicine that is perhaps supposed to make us better, but leaves us in a disastrous and hospitalized situation??
